iphammer - only one of the players you mention made a significant contribution last season, and even he only played about half of our games. Not a problem. New signings will arrive and two or three youngsters will step up as squad players.

I get worried about every game, let alone a fucking season. And that goes back 60 odd years! Nothing will ever change that, for sure.

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
Not worried really but pessimistic and think it's another false dawn like under Bilic. The club isn't financially strong, we risk losing any real talent we have due to lack of ambition and wage structure and whatever money we generate from sales we will struggle to replace with better due to the clubs status.

At some point you have to stop fishing in the backwaters and championship hoping players come good and actually buy some proven quality that isn't crocked or looking for a last payday.
We need players that are going to make the difference - much like Lingard did for a period last year. Big clubs have several of those types of player including ones to come off the bench. We have barely a first team and have to put multiple keepers on the bench to make up numbers.

Still we'll see if any of our signings from the past couple of seasons can kick on further, bump their values and attract bigger teams.

Looking forward to seeing how we do in Europa league. If nothing else it will be a change of opponents and if taken seriously then a route to make West Ham more well known and prominent as a club around Europe.

Pagey because they sold our only striker at the time before finding a replacement. Nothing to do with ambition

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
I'm worried in that I don't trust the board to give Moyes what he needs to sustain a European and domestic campaign, and all the hard work will be ruined.

They have a history of making all these big noises about ambition and where the club should be, but then often fail to put their money where their mouth is.

There is a lot of work to do on the squad to give Moyes what he needs. i don't doubt he's identified what he needs/wants and communicated it. i just hope they give him what he needs and don't fob him off with cheap alternatives or nothing at all.

At the very least we need another 1-2 decent strikers, cover for the central midfield, central defence and goalkeeper.

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
No, I'm taking what I can and looking forward to it, my only worry is that they don't take European football seriously.

Think any european football should be considered a highlight and a really good chance to showcase the club, we've got a decent history in Europe afterall, two finals in europe and one trophy isn't to be sniffed at.

If it's not taken seriously then think that will come from above, but have expended too much energy in getting angry at or worrying about what our board will or won't do - I detested them even when they were at BCFC, a club I don't like, and have had enough of getting all wound up by them.

Enjoy it, if things do go pear shaped, then worry about it.

39 points - 13 wins - kept Burnley up last season.

That will be the board's benchmark for success this term, no matter what the hopes of the fans, players and management team are.

Whatever sort of squad that will be just about able to achieve that will be the one we end up with.

…………….

If that’s the case, why did they spend millions on a loan fee and wages to get Lingard when we were already safe?

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
Maybe the board are waiting on the draw for the European games so they can work out what they can borrow against any anticipated prize/appearance money...

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
I actually think Moyes knows what he is doing with the squad and has an idea of the players/types of players he wants. We will be active after the Euros and hopefully have a much better squad by the end of window than we do now. He will know he needs depth in squad now we are in Europe. More of the Soucek/Coufal types of signings would do me.

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
TJD, as I pointed out earlier, one of the biggest success's for us was being able to keep most of our best players throughout the season....this is a rare thing.....85/86 is another good example of this type of event for us.

Russ, I don't think West Ham supporters do 'panicking' we've all seen with our own eyes the permutations to a terrible season to not be fazed but instead expect it.....in fairness it kind of sets us apart in how we deal with it ie: the crowd still keeps on coming even in the championship......

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
If we keep Rice and Soucek, we'll be in the top half again, so that's my only worry.

We probably won't finish higher than 6th, or win any cups. As long as we win a few derbies, I won't be too unhappy.

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
To be honest, the squad needs to be trimmed of the deadwood and I don't mind the club doing that first providing good replacements are found.

The likes of Anderson, Lanzini, Yarmalenko can all go as far as I'm concerned.

We absolutely must not go into the season though with only 18-20 first team players and with the manager having to supplement the squad with unproven and/or inadequate youth team players.

If we do go into the season with an inadequately sized squad we will be dicing with death (relegation).

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
Those 3 never played for us anyway so they won’t be missed. Don’t bother correcting me by saying yarmalenko played 200 minutes or whatever insignificant amount it was. We need to sign Lingard and demonstrate toRice and other players we are an attractive proposition! Leicester have already signed a striker we were linked to! Is Moyes leaving it to late, will all the available talent be picked off before we get active? It’s a nail biter!

Russ of the BML 12:54 Wed Jul 7
Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
With 50 days of transfer window left I am not worried.

Plenty of time to get rid of expensive deadwood and bring in more expensive deadwood.

Stop panicking.

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
The consensus of the experts at this time last season and right into the first few games was that we would be relegated for certain, with reasoned arguments to support that.

Just saying

Re: Is anyone else worried about next season?
All those players leaving is fine.

Will we bring in decent replacements? I have confidence now in the man making the decisions ie Moyes. I am not confident he'll be given the money though and I also think he'll say nothing to the owners if he isn't given enough money.

As others have said, we have the occasional good season every 5 to 10 years and we never build on it. I find it likely we will decline a bit but the question is how much. If we have a decent run in the Europa and finish mid table I'd be happy.
